{"id":3451,"date":"2022-11-18T17:42:49","date_gmt":"2022-11-18T17:42:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.acarbio.org\/en\/?p=3451"},"modified":"2023-02-27T10:37:47","modified_gmt":"2023-02-27T10:37:47","slug":"the-shelter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.acarbio.org\/en\/the-shelter\/","title":{"rendered":"Il Rifugio della Salamandra"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The shelter was part of the project &#8220;RESCUE: REnew Spaces &#8211; U Educate&#8221; that went from 2020-2022 with the aim of reclaiming abandoned public spaces.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Shelter is the first space that we reclaimed. This wonderful spot located in Monti Lattari\u00a0 looks like it comes out of a fairy tale. Built in the 1900\u2019s it was used by Forest Guards to protect nature. Having been abandoned since the 1990\u2019s, it has been inhabited for some time only to be abandoned again afterwards. We discovered it many decades afterwards, and identified the good potential in this shelter &#8211; and, despite the huge amount of work that we had ahead of us, we went into this adventure.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The building was damaged: the walls and the roof were destroyed and nature overwhelmed the area. More than 20 work excursions were organized where we collected trash, fixed the roof, carried cement and much more.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A typical work excursion \u2018Let\u2019s build the Shelter!\u2019 always started thanks to previous organizational meetings. With the help of locals and volunteers we first went to collect the materials. It is important for the association to recycle because\u00a0 sustainability is our future. It is also a perfect place to discover some aspects of geology and the volcanic territory, and some players in the ecosystem, such as pollinators or lichens and mosses. With 20 volunteers, we started the hike in the morning followed by a picnic lunch and a mountain climbing in the afternoon. From the top of the mountain, you can have an amazing view over the valley of Salerno.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-3492\" src=\"https:\/\/www.acarbio.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/296285350_194322449619185_6186888513637118498_n-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"880\" height=\"660\" \/><\/p>\n<p><br \/><br \/><br \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The end of the day was organized with the setup of the tents, a nice hot meal and the happiness of spending a night outside. The next morning, after breakfast, the team started to hike back home but found a really dirty path with a lot of trash. We stopped for an hour and collected it.
